June 19-22, 2009
Seventy-five Benedictine women, representing 21
North American monasteries gathered on Friday,
June 19, 2009 at Benedictine University in Lisle,
Illinois. As elected delegates they participated in
four days of sessions intended as preparation for
the General Chapter of the Federation of St.
Scholastica to be held in June 2010 in Atchison,
Kansas. The 2009 pre-chapter and the Chapter
next year are aimed at providing resource
materials and supportive guidelines to assist the
approximately 900 federation members in their
ongoing efforts to deepen their commitment to
the Benedictine way of life. A General Chapter is
scheduled every four years.

The gathering was hosted by Sacred Heart
Monastery in Lisle and St. Scholastica Monastery

Sisters from nineteen monasteries across the

prioress of each of these communities was
present along with at least two Sisters elected as
delegates.
